Three days in Cortina by MTB. Fun on two wheels

Discover the Queen of the Dolomites

Day 1

Day 1

Day 1 starting point is the Cortina Bike Park Dolomiti at Socrepes, at the foot of the Tofane massifs. Located 2 km from Cortina centre, on the road to Passo Falzarego, the area offers a wide car park where you can leave your car and get on your bike. This side of the Cortina Bike Park Dolomiti offers 12 flow trails with jumps, parabolic curves, and tracks of different grading. “Ride in Cortina” mountain bike instructors can provide beginners with useful guidance and advice to correctly approach this discipline as well as  help expert riders to improve their skills.

The Tofane area offers endless opportunities to mountain bike lovers, among them the descent from Rifugio Duca d'Aosta to Rifugio Dibona and Malghe di Fedarola or down the slopes of the World Cup races.

In summer 2023, the Cortina Bike Park Dolomiti was renovated  thanks to a cooperation between Ista and Tofana companies aiming to promote together the world of gravity, downhill, and mountain biking. The offer now comprises both slopes of the Tofane group with trails connecting Piè Tofana and Col Druscié.

In addition to the construction of new jumps and much wider parabolic curves, already existing trails have been lengthened and new flow trails have been set up.

After exploring the Bike Park, cyclists may descend from Col Druscié  - where the Cortina Freccia nel Cielo gondola station is - towards Pié Tofana. Then, ride past a picturesque heart-shaped lake and Crepe de Cianderou, the latter are a peculiar rock formation facing the Boite Valley. Continue climbing up to Passo Posporcora (1700 mt asl) and then speed down the steep descent  towards Ponte dei Cadoris. Close by are the spectacular Fanes Waterfalls: a must see. Leave your bike and venture along the short via ferrata route leading beneath the Rio Fanes Waterfall. We strongly recommend bringing your via ferrata kit with you. Return to your bike and continue riding down towards Pian de Ra Spines, where you take the bike path back to Cortina.

START: Cortina, Località Socrepes (1330 m)

VERTICAL GAIN: 710 m
VERTICAL LOSS: 818 m
TOTAL LENGTH: 21.3 km (including lift rides)

Day 2

From Cortina centre, ride up as far as Son dei Prade where you take the new Cortina Skyline gondola, also open in summer from 2023. A breathtaking journey between the majestic Rozes rockface and the unmistakable spires of the 5 Torri. This 15-minute, 4.5 km ride connects  Son dei Prade to Bai de Dones, as a crow flies from a privileged perspective over the Ampezzo Dolomites. The journey lets you discover the most amazing natural beauties the Queen of the Dolomites has to offer. Leaving  Son dei Prade, the stunning view of Cortina valley surrounded by Mt Faloria, Mt Cristallo, Mt Pomagagnon to the north-east and Becco di Mezzodì, Croda da Lago, and Lastoi de Formin to the south-west unfolds behind you. After Cianzopé middle station, you end up at Bai de Dones.

Once there, embark your bike  on the 5 Torri chairlift up to Rifugio Scoiattoli. From the top, take a moment to appreciate the breathtaking views all around: the Tofane massifs behind, Mt Averau standing against the sky, and the 5 Torri so close it seems you can touch them. Get on your bike, ride up to Rifugio Averau - one of the historical mountain guesthouses in Cortina - and then take trail No. 441 towards Passo Falzarego. Once there, follow the Strada de La Vena, an ancient road connecting the Fursil Iron Mines found in Colle Santa Lucia to the smelting furnaces of Castello di Andraz. The well-kept and well signposted dirt road runs around Monte Pore, following a gentle up and down through the forest with amazing views over the villages below. The route continues towards Passo Giau as far as Rifugio Fedare where  the ascent to Rifugio Averau, either by lift or by bike, starts.

From the mountain guesthouse, ride down to Rifugio 5 Torri and continue along trail No.424 to return to Cortina.
