The Queen of the Dolomites

In the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies the valley of Cortina d’Ampezzo surrounded by majestic peaks, forests, and alpine lakes.

Its natural beauty and unique morphology have earned it the title of “Queen of the Dolomites”. The town has long played - and continues to play - a key role in the development of winter sports and outdoor activities, becoming a timeless symbol of holidays characterised by beauty, sport, and a luxury lifestyle.

Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of the only two Italian resorts included in Best of the Alps, the prestigious European Association that brings together the thirteen most iconic and exclusive venues in the entire Alpine region. These coveted destinations attract visitors from all over the world for the quality of their services, the efficiency of their facilities, their charming landscapes and - above all - their commitment to preserving and promoting cultural and environmental heritage.

This quality label unites the venues that have hosted the Winter Olympic Games: St. Moritz (Svizzera, 1928 and 1948), Innsbruck (Austria, 1964 and 1976) and Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italia, 1956 and 2026).

Founded in 1991, Best of the Alps promotes authentic, high-end, and sustainable tourism focusing on hospitality, culture, and Alpine lifestyle.

Cortina, a founding member of the network, aims to combine service excellence, environmental protection, and an integrated tourist offer, capable of standing out in the international Alpine scenario.

Thanks to its vibrant energy - renowned boutiques, trendy venues, starred restaurants, gourmet mountain lodges, cultural events, and traditions deeply rooted in the local community - Cortina has been member of the Altagamma Foundation since 2014, under the category Territori di Eccellenza (“Territories of Excellence”) - a seal of quality uniting high-profile tourist destinations with internationally recognized brands.

In July 2025, the so-called Territori di Altagamma - Cortina, Courmayeur, Madonna di Campiglio, Capri, Porto Cervo and Portofino – joined together to form the Associazione dei Territori di Altagamma, with the goal of strengthening collaborations and enhancing the promotion of high-end tourism, reaffirming their role as ambassadors of the finest Italian Lifestyle.

In winter, with 120 km of ski runs and 35 lift facilities across Cortina d'Ampezzo, San Vito di Cadore, Auronzo and Misurina Ski areas – associated in the Cortina Skiworld consortium – Cortina is one of the jewels of Dolomiti Superski, the largest ski area in Italy.

Created in 1974 and spanning approximately 3,000 km2 across three regions (South Tyrol, Trentino, and Belluno), Dolomiti Superski encompasses most of the ski slopes of the Dolomites, totalling 1,246 km of runs across twelve different ski areas, 500 km of which are interconnected “ski-in/ski-out”.

Cortina is not only a prime destination for Alpine skiing, snowboarding, and Nordic skiing, it is also ideal for hiking - with trails suited to every level - as well as sledding, rock climbing, and many other outdoor activities.
